Local data, telemetry, and feedback

HyperSwitcher has no cloud account or built-in settings sync. Shortcuts, profiles, layout preferences, app names, and window titles stay on your Mac.

Data stored locally

• The settings file contains shortcuts, Shortcut Groups, profiles, and preferences. It normally lives in HyperSwitcher’s Application Support folder, or under XDG_CONFIG_HOME when your Mac is configured to use that location.
• A validated license record is stored in the macOS keychain.
• macOS may provide crash, hang, CPU-exception, or disk-write diagnostics through MetricKit. HyperSwitcher keeps a bounded local archive of the newest 20 payloads for up to 30 days.
• The current day’s anonymous usage totals and privacy-safe settings snapshot stay on your Mac until the daily summary can be sent. PostHog also assigns the installation a random, stable anonymous ID. It is not based on hardware, a license, or an account.

App names, window titles, shortcut assignments, and layout geometry are not uploaded as analytics data.

Anonymous app telemetry

Anonymous telemetry is on by default. Turn it off under Settings → General → Send anonymous telemetry. When enabled, HyperSwitcher sends bounded events to PostHog’s EU service without creating a person profile. PostHog’s automatic lifecycle, screen, interaction, session replay, and crash tracking is disabled.

Repeated activity is counted on your Mac and sent as at most one daily summary for an active day. That summary contains:

• totals for app and window switching, Quick Layout, Workspaces, Tidy Up, and command actions;
• totals for related switching, layout, focus, shortcut-registration, and command failures;
• a privacy-safe settings snapshot limited to known choices and on/off values, with counts and durations placed into broad ranges instead of sending exact values.

Some setting changes are sent separately, using only known choices or on/off values. Rare milestones can also be sent separately, such as completing onboarding, configuring or using a feature for the first time, activating a license, or submitting feedback.

Every app event identifies the HyperSwitcher Mac app and includes its version, build, and variant, along with the macOS major version. PostHog uses its random anonymous installation ID for unique-install and retention reports, but HyperSwitcher does not add that ID as an event property. PostHog is told not to enrich events with location data from the IP address.

Events do not include app or window names, shortcut keys or assignments, profile names, exact custom timings, license keys, accounts, email addresses, feedback text, Settings search text, layout geometry, or command targets. Hardware details, screen size, locale, time zone, connection type, and analytics session IDs are also excluded. Turning telemetry off stops future capture and discards the unsent daily summary.

The HyperSwitcher website and download service are separate surfaces. They may keep normal server logs and use privacy-friendly website events such as page views, navigation clicks, and download clicks.

Feedback is a separate, manual action

Settings → Feedback sends only when you press Send Feedback. A reply email is optional.

The form can include the app version, build number, macOS version, app variant, license status, and anonymous-diagnostics status. You can remove any of them before sending. The license key is never attached.

Diagnostic exports stay under your control

Settings → Advanced → Diagnostic Logs → Export… creates a text file from recent HyperSwitcher logs and any locally stored MetricKit diagnostics. The exporter redacts app names, window names, candidate lists, file paths, and user-home paths. Nothing is uploaded automatically: the export leaves your Mac only if you choose to share the saved file.
