Shortcut Replay

Shortcut Replay plays a prepared sequence of keyboard events for demos and repeatable tests.

Turn it on

Turn on Experimental Shortcut Replay in Settings → Advanced, then open the new Shortcut Replay page. The setting belongs to the active profile and adds a replay menu to the menu bar.

Accessibility allows replayed keys to drive global shortcuts. Input Monitoring is only used by the optional key overlay when it listens for your manual key presses. The replay page shows both permission states and links to System Settings.

Create a replay

Choose Create Example to create quick-layout-demo.hsreplay and reveal it in Finder. An .hsreplay file is plain text and can:

press or hold a key;
release one key or every held key;
wait for a chosen duration;
show a readable note for a step;
set default press and pause timing.

Edit the example in a text editor, then choose Reload and Validate Files in HyperSwitcher.

Existing JSON replay files still work, but .hsreplay is the preferred format.

Play or stop

Valid files appear under Playback and in the menu bar replay menu. Playback begins after a one-second delay.

During playback, Settings shows the current step. Choose Stop Replay in Settings or the menu bar to end the sequence. HyperSwitcher releases any held replay keys when playback stops.

Show keys in a recording

The Key overlay setting has three modes:

Off hides it.
On during replay shows replayed keys only.
On also shows your manual key presses while HyperSwitcher is running.

Only On may require Input Monitoring because it listens for manual key presses in other apps. On during replay already knows which scripted keys to display and does not monitor your keyboard.

Use Hyper key label to show the logical Hyper key as Hyper, Caps Lock, or Right Command. The choice applies to scripted and manual key presses and changes only the label in the overlay, not your Hyper key or shortcut behavior. HyperSwitcher remembers your choice.

The overlay can appear at the top, center, or bottom of the active display.

Invalid files remain visible with their error instead of being played.
