Back up or move your settings

HyperSwitcher keeps its profiles, shortcuts, and layout preferences in one local settings file. Copy it to back up or move your setup.

Find and copy the file

Open Settings → Advanced and choose Reveal in Finder.

The usual file is settings.json. HyperSwitcher can also read JSON5 and YAML, and supports XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Keep the existing name and format unless you intend to change them.

The file includes all profiles and their shortcuts, along with shared choices such as Dock visibility and telemetry. It does not contain your license key, login-item registration, installed command-line link, anonymous telemetry identity, or the active-profile choice stored locally on that Mac.

Restore it or move it to another Mac

1. Keep a copy of the destination Mac’s current settings file.
2. Quit HyperSwitcher so it cannot save while you replace the file.
3. Put the backup at the location shown by Reveal in Finder, using the destination file’s name.
4. Open HyperSwitcher again.

The receiving Mac may select a different profile because each Mac keeps its own active-profile choice.

Validate a manual edit

• Validate File checks whether HyperSwitcher can read the current document.
• Reload reads it from disk and rebuilds the active shortcuts.

Caution

Do not use Reset Defaults as a troubleshooting experiment unless you have a backup. It removes your configured behavior. If an edited file is invalid, restore the backup instead of repeatedly rewriting it.

License activation is stored separately in the macOS keychain. Moving the settings file does not activate the new Mac; use License settings for that.
